Bear Falls

Whenever I feel like going on a hike somewhere I go to a website that has local hikes within 2 hours of Sacramento.  The directions on the website are often iffy and sometimes/almost never it is probably not a good idea to drive down some of the suggested routes in our mini cooper.

A couple weekends ago I found a "very easy" hike in Bear Falls that is only about an hour and a half east of here.  It probably isn't surprising to anyone but us, but there was snow there!  It turns out we were almost at Tahoe.  To get there our map and GPS suggested taking a winding unpaved uphill road and after about 2 minutes of that we turned around and found another way to the park.  I'm just happy it wasn't another Last Chance Road episode.

The dipper bird is a kind of bird that only lives around freshwater streams and rivers.  We saw a sign on the walk with a drawing of one and a description of its signature dance move.  The bird bends its knees and does a little dip.  I saw one!  After the first sighting B spent an hour trying to get a good photo of one.
