Old Dutch chips

I received a special delivery straight from a Canadian source!  B's sister brought me some Old Dutch dill pickle chips and coffee crisp chocolate bars.

Maybe I'm sad because I didn't bring the dill chips with me to SF? Or maybe I'm just trying to look tough.  These are the all dressed chips that B really likes.

Our first adventure was a new hike I found online to Beale Falls.  After a few wrong turns we found the hiking area.

This was part was the first part of the hike.  We turned left instead of right towards the falls but still ended up seeing some pretty ponds and streams.

B near the falls.  They are 100 feet tall and very steep! J was a daredevil and looked over the edge for a photo!

The following day we went on a day trip to San Francisco.  None of us had been on the tour to Alcatraz and it was a lot more fun than I'd expected.  I wasn't sure what to think of a prison tour and was wondering whether the audio tour was worth it, which I said out loud, while in line to get in.  The lady in front of J and I overheard me saying that and said, very loudly, OH YES, IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!!!

The boat ride over was verrrry chilly.

While on the island we went on a guided tour to learn about famous escapes from the island.  We walked through about 40 minutes of it and heard the tour guide say, "Is that an escape?" at least 20 times.  We knew it was time to go on the audio tour when the guy standing next to me starting yawning very loudly and J and I couldn't stop laughing.  Here's B escaping the island!

We made it to the Golden Gate bridge before it became dark and at least 1000 photos were taken between the Ander siblings.

After dinner and shopping, J got a brownie at Ghirardelli square and I had a bite.  It was delicious!  Around this time the combo of the free energy drinks we got at Union square mixed with the sugar in the brownie led to us getting on B's nerves.

Oh sweet cilantro, why do you hate me so?

I made some crab cakes the other night and unwisely decided to add some fresh cilantro to both the cakes and the soup.  I'd forgotten that it didn't sit well with me.  It was almost worth it but next time I'll make the carb cakes without the nasty herb.

Taking it easy

The cold weather has been slowly inviting itself into Sacramento.  I am surprised that I find myself feeling cold here and wishing I had a pattern for knitted gloves [I've since ordered a book from the library with instructions for a really cute pair].  It's already snowing in Winnipeg!  Last year I didn't bring out my winter boots and wondered why people wore heavy coats and gloves but now I've become one of those people!

Lately we've been spending time baking,  cleaning/organizing/recycling/giving away/throwing out things,  crafting and reading.  Next week B's sister is coming here for a visit and we're going to Alcatraz!
